Shark teeth that are found that look bent, distorted, or deformed are referred to as pathological teeth. These teeth are usually formed from disease, genetic mutation, or damage to that part of the jaw while they are still immature. When found, collectors may have trouble identifying them. These teeth are uncommon and are of interest to paleontologists because they represent possible diseases that sharks might have had (sharks do not get diseases easily).
