Shark Attacks Shark Shark Attack - What is the Risk? By Rocky Boschman Thanks to sensational movies like Jaws and reporting like Time Magazine's "Summer of Fear", our fear of sharks has been driven so deep into our core, that many are afraid to even enter the ocean. You might think that its a lot safer to just stay at home and putter around the house. In 1996, home improvement projects in the USA involving toilets led to 43,687 injuries. Mishaps with ladders added another 138,894 injuries. Even buckets caused over 10,000 injuries. Shark attacks in that year injured just 13. Statistically, we should be more frightened by man's best friend and age-old companion, the family dog. During the period of 2001-2007, there were 175 dog attack fatalities in the USA. There were only six shark attack fatalities in the same period. There are a lot of other animals that we should fear before sharks. In 1981, New York City alone reported 81 squirrel bites. There were only 12 shark bi...

Sharks attacks people rarely but if you know a few precautions, then you can reduce the risks. Shark Attacks Navy Helicopter

Shark Attacks On Humans

Image
Shark Attacks On Humans There are a number of different kinds of shark attacks . The first one is the "Hit and Run"; when the shark bites and then leaves. This is actually a common practice among sharks - these bites are known as "exploratory bites". Sharks rarely attack a human specifically for food, as humans don't have the right amount of fat composition they need to sustain their strong, muscular bodies. Sharks are also unable to feel hungry, and can in fact go months without eating. The second form of attack is often fatal, and occurs most often in deep water. It is known as the "Sneak Attack". The "Bump and Bite" is another attack style used by sharks. They brush up against their prey to incapacitate it before going in for a strike. Often times a mere bump from these strong animals can cause serious damage to a human. Shark Attacks On Humans

Shark Attacks On Surfers

Image
Shark Attacks On Surfers Contrary to popular belief, sharks do not make a conscious effort to attack humans. In fact, there aren't nearly as many attacks as you would think. More people die from being struck by lightning every year than from shark attacks . The year 2000 had the highest number of recorded shark attacks, and even then it was only a total of 79 worldwide. Most of them occurred on the coasts of the United States, and only 16 of them proved to be fatal. On average, only about 4 people in the entire world die from shark attack related injuries each year. The location with the highest number of attacks is New Smyrna Beach, in Florida, USA. Shark Attacks On Surfers

Of these, 737 happened in the United States, and 38 people died as a result. Hardly alarming numbers, but the actual number of shark attacks isn't really known because many areas keep them under wraps so tourism isn't affected. Shark Attacks Pictures

Shark Attacks Helicopter

Shark Attacks Helicopter First, sharks can employ the sneak and surprise attack. It occurs in deeper waters where they are hardly seen before attacking. It catches their prey by surprise. In this kind of attack, there is no initial contact. This is the same reason why there are multiple chances of bites. The shark suddenly pulls out to its prey seemingly out of nowhere. The basic idea for this kind of attack is to be quiet and unnoticed so that the prey will not have time to run away. Discretion is the key. When the shark suddenly bites, the prey is left with nothing to do but panic. Shark Attacks Helicopter

As much as possible avoid night swimming. Also avoid swimming in the dusk and dawn. These are the time that sharks get out to hunt. Do not enter the water when you are bleeding because shark can easily notice blood. Do not wear jewelries. Avoid clothing that is brightly colored. Get out of fishing areas and do not enter in the areas where it is known to be areas of sharks. Shark Attacks In Australia
