Great White Sharks Attacks

Great White Sharks Attacks Although sharks are often categorized as killers that hunt and eat as many humans as they can, this is factually inaccurate. Sharks very rarely kill humans. A person has a greater chance of being struck by lightning or drowning in a bath than of being killed by a shark. Only 74 people have been reported killed by great whites in the last century. But great white sharks can reach six meters in length and weigh 2,200 kilograms or more. With frightening jaws that can hold up to 3,000 teeth arranged in several rows, they could very easily kill and eat a helpless human in the water. Why is it, then, that most people survive attacks by great whites? Shark researchers are trying to comprehend the reasons that allow people to escape without being eaten. Great White Sharks Attacks

Sharks Attacking Humans

Sharks Attacking Humans Of the 350 shark species that roam in the waters of our planet, only 20% are capable of either performing a shark attack on humans or even coming into contact with them. In fact, 80% of sharks are either too small, are plankton either or live where humans are nowhere to be seen so they do not pose any threat to mankind. One of nature's most unusual creatures, the Hammerhead Shark is an amazing beast to see. There are nine hammerhead species already identified (the ninth specimen was identified in South Carolina in 2006), of which three can be dangerous to humans, although shark attacks by hammerheads are almost unheard of. Hammerhead Point, also known as Madivaru Corner, is a dive site in Rasdhoo Atoll, Maldives, where Hammerheads pass by the reef wall early every morning, along with a variety of large deep-water fish. This breathtaking dive is a must-see for any diving enthusiast in the Maldives. Sharks Attacking Humans

Sharks Attacking Boats The most important shark attack ever registered was done during the WWII on the crew of the USS Indianapolis. While about a dozen of the crew members were devoured by sharks in this tragic incident, the victims were usually the dead, the badly injured ones or the isolated ones. Sharks are not known to prey on healthy individuals are they fear the consequences. Nowadays, with shark attacks being documented on the internet and by the media, people fear this giant fish even more. It has come to the point where people are even challenging the laws protecting the great white shark which belongs on the endangered species list. Sharks Attacking Boats

Bull Sharks Attacks

Bull Sharks Attacks The fear of sharks is a common one, not helped by fear-inducing movies like Jaws, Deep Blue Sea, and Red Water. However, while there are over 360 species of shark, only 4 have been known to attack a human unprovoked. Those dangerous few are the Great White, Tiger, Bull and Oceanic White Tip Sharks. The majority of the attacks by the first three species mentioned are well documented, however, since the oceanic white tip stays in the deep ocean doesn't come near the coast like the others, fewer attacks by them have been recorded. Recent studies have shown that they are unlikely to attack unprovoked, however a number of attacks were attributed to the oceanic white tip during the two World Wars, when a great deal of ships were destroyed while at sea. While the four aforementioned species account for a significant number of all shark attacks , there have been a few others that have caused injury to humans. Bull Sharks Attacks
